Calling Heaven, WOLK O PHONE, 2025
In Christine Clinckx's world, all you have to do is slip on a pair of cloud shoes. WOLK O PHONE (2025) is an interactive performative installation in which visitors literally and figuratively enter into a different consciousness: First, they anchor their feet in the Cloud Shoes – sculptural objects that suggest the lighter side of existence – and then they enter into a dialogue with ‘heaven’ via a cloud telephone, the WOLK O PHONE.
Who answers? Not God, but a colourful parade of voices from the cultural pantheon: artists, musicians, writers, an art historian. Here, heaven is not a metaphysical entity, but a collective consciousness. Each number called asks a question – simple, existential or absurd – to which heaven replies: ‘Hello, this is heaven. How can I help you?’ Then it happens: a cloud descends over the visitor's head. Their vision disappears and they can reflect on the question without answering it. The answer remains with the visitor.
